5 ways to spice up your backyard wedding

Quick Guide:

1) Book an event planner/coordinator who’s done it before.

2) Think organic details: bring the earth to the table, simple greens go far.

3) Festive food: local catering, food trucks, cultural drinks & candy

4) Engaging entertainment

5) Involve everyone: flower girls & well-composed pets

Book an event planner

Consider someone who has specialized in intimate/ backyard weddings already. A coordinator's job is to make your life easier. Do your homework by browsing their website and try to schedule a call asap. You’ll want to have sufficient time to collaborate.

Focus on the details

Consider organic leaves and blossoms as decor. Eucalyptus is always a favorite. Bring the backyard to the table with accents of your favorite flower. Simple greens go a long way.  Think about designating spots in your backyard for photos, cocktail hour, and lounging. Try setting up areas with nice light; string or barn lights are a fantastic way to set the mood.

Think local

Message a local restaurant or food cart a few months prior to your event. If you’ve found an event planner, work with them and their network! Consider having a meal that everyone is familiar with, yet probably hasn’t had in a while.

Another way to spice things up is with fruit and candy. Have a goodie bag ready to go for each guest as it’s a natural way to elicit exclamation from everyone. Unique drink options like Mexican Coke or champagne are great to think about. Home-arranged fruit, cheese, and graze boards are also a good idea.

Engage your guests

Consider asking a few family members to lead fun activities during the dinner and reception parts of the night. Should you choose to have live music, consider a trio or a single musician to limit the number of attendees. A designated emcee can help lead toasts. Planned spontaneity helps make brilliant memories for the bride and groom. Make the speeches and toast engaging by having folks share voluntarily!
